10 Tips to Keep Your Toyota Running Like New

Long Live the Open Road

Toyotas are known for being reliable, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take steps to maintain the health of your vehicle. Without the proper steps taken, especially regular maintenance and checkups, your Toyota’s engine, transmission, and other components will wear down over time.

So, what can you do? A lot, it turns out, to maintain your Toyota’s long-term health and performance. Plus, most don’t take much time or monetary investment either. Read on to discover ten tips you can take to keep your Toyota running like new.

If you’re in need of regular service, or it’s time for a checkup to make sure everything is running smoothly, get in touch with the world-class service department at World Toyota. Our Toyota-trained expert technicians will have you in and out before you know it, while our genuine Toyota parts and materials ensure your Toyota leaves the dealer looking– and feeling– like new.

1. Get Your Oil Change!

It’s common to put off your oil change for a few weeks– or longer– passed the recommended service date. However, each time you do that you may be putting your Toyota’s engine under unnecessary stress and causing permanent damage.

Make sure to get your oil changed regularly, based on the ‘X miles or X days, whichever comes first’ recommendation from your dealer.

2. Use the Right Gasoline

Most fill up at the gas station using the lowest octane gas to save a few bucks. That could be fine, but you should check to see what type of gasoline is recommended for your vehicle.

It might not be the highest octane either, as some vehicles prefer standard (or lower octane) gasoline.

3. Check Your Tire Pressure

Tire pressure is vital, as the incorrect tire pressure can lead to accelerated tire wear and even reduced fuel efficiency. The good news is that you can check your tire pressure reliably all on your own, using a tire pressure sensor purchased from your local auto supply store.

4. Rotate Your Tires

It would be nice if your tires wore down evenly. However, the front and back of the car typically carry a different weight load, and therefore wear down at different rates.

So it’s important to get your tires rotated regularly to ensure optimal ride quality and that one pair of tires doesn’t have to be replaced before the others.

5. Get Your Car’s Fluids Checked Regularly

There are multiple types of fluids used throughout your vehicle, each with a unique– and important– function.

Only your local Toyota-certified technician will be able to tell you for sure which of these fluids are low and what is the optimal replacement. So, make sure to get your fluids checked regularly and always by a Toyota technician.

6. Replace Your Engine Air Filter

Your engine air filter is designed to catch debris and ensure your engine can “breathe” clean air, filtering particles that would otherwise affect engine performance.

In fact, checking your air filter regularly is so important, it affects both your fuel economy and the vehicle’s acceleration.
