Stylish and Subtle Sweeps of Exterior Change

Part of the fourth-generation, the 2020 Toyota Highlander’s noticeably chiseled, subtly contoured look prevails. A new and substantial accent line on the side of the vehicle flows dramatically upward up from the front fender for a bit of additional character. The windows taper toward the rear, and upfront a smaller grille sets the stage for a winged Toyota logo.

Thinner yet more trapezoidal shaped headlights and taillights will be what you notice first. Standard 18-inch alloy wheels are still available, but Toyota also makes 20-inch wheels available for 2020. Built on high-strength steel, the unibody structure is stiffer and is now more than 2.4 inches longer, nose to tail, resulting in more cargo space, added third-row legroom and improved aerodynamics.

Who can’t use more cargo space these days? While the 2020 Toyota Highlander is a three-row crossover with up to eight seats, it still has 16.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-row seats. Meanwhile, it achieves up to 40.6 cubic feet of space with the third row folded down and 73.3 with the second and third rows folded. The kids love the 2020 Highlander’s third row seating. Meanwhile, the Highlander LE has added a power liftgate to its new line.

The redesigned 2020 Toyota Highlander has done away with the four-cylinder engine. Fittingly responsive and quiet, the 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 and eight-speed automatic transmission are similar to the 2019 model. Also unchanged is the Highlander’s 5,000-pound max towing capacity, with the optional towing package, and it’s available in either front- or all-wheel drive model as well. The new 2020 Highlander gets an EPA-estimated 22 MPG city/highway driving, according to EPA estimates.
