Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the 4Runner

In 2023, the Toyota 4Runner is celebrating a major milestone. The rugged four-wheel-drive icon will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special edition model available in limited supply. In the first 40 years, Toyota sold over four million 4Runner models after the 1984 model year made its debut.

Retro-Inspired Design with a Nod to the 1980s

The 2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary Edition will come with the rugged and attractive features drivers have come to expect. As a nod to the original 1984 model year, the 2023 4Runner truck will be available in three special-edition colors: White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Barcelona Red Metallic. It will also come with bronze-colored 17-inch alloy wheels, bronze 40th Anniversary badging on the tailgate, and a TOYOTA heritage grille.

While the colors and exterior accents add a retro style to the 4Runner, the big nod to the 1980s comes in the form of the heritage graphics package. The package includes retro-inspired yellow, orange, and red body graphics running along the rear passenger windows, door panels, and fenders. The 2023 4Runner concept of retro styling harkens back to the early off-road racing models that built its loyal following.

Loaded with Celebratory Interior, Technology, and Performance Features

On the inside, Toyota adds more bronze-colored anniversary features. The center console has anniversary badging, and the shift knob and seats have bronze-color stitching. The floor mats and seats wear 40th Anniversary badging, and all 40th Anniversary models have a power moonroof.

The 2023 4Runner will come with a 4.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. The truck has a five-speed automatic transmission that allows for manual shifting when needed. All 4Runner models can tow 5,000 pounds thanks to the integrated tow hitch receiver and wiring harness.

The 40th Anniversary 4Runner has room for seven passengers and a full suite of standard safety features. The Toyota Safety Sense-P suite includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, LED lights, Lane Departure Alert with Sway Warning System, Automatic High Beams, and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
