Toyota says it redesigned the 2020 Highlander from the ground up, enhancing the midsize SUV in every way possible. The midsize SUV is bolder than ever with its chiseled new design, and it features a sophisticated new look based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) platform.

Gas-powered models feature a muscular 3.5L V6 engine that generates 295 horsepower, and it can be paired with an available towing package, which allows the SUV to tow up to 5,000 pounds. Meanwhile, the 2020 Highlander Hybrid has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors. Together, they achieve a total of 240 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 34 city/highway combined MPG.

Both powertrains are available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive systems. However, the AWD has been enhanced for this new generation. In the Limited and Platinum trims, Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD provides greater agility and capability while enhances the vehicle’s handling.
